USED CARS – LAND – WHISKY – MANURE – NAILS – FLY SWATTERS – RACING FORMS – BONGOS
When you look at a Meier Plumbing business card you may be a little surprised to find these words proudly listed above our company name.
Huh??? Why??? What??? Are a few of the confused looks and questions we receive as we have handed out our business cards through the years.
To explain we invite you to look back about 85 years ago. It was a time known as The Great Depression. A time when money was scarce and creativity was often required to put food on the table. Fred Meier, father of Meier Plumbing’s founder Gary, was married to Leona with 3 children under 6 years old at that time. A plumber by trade, the steady work which had been providing for his family was coming to a halt. Bartering became a way of life for many, including Fred. If work was available, money might not have been. Trading plumbing services for a chicken, or for manure to use on the farm, and perhaps even a bit of whisky over time was not unusual. Sometimes when services were not required, odd things may have exchanged hands such as items one had but no longer needed. It was a way of provision during a time of hardship. A bit of history to reflect on and remember where we came from.
So…. USED CARS – LAND – WHISKY – MANURE – NAILS – FLY SWATTERS – RACING FORMS – BONGOS. A list of a few silly items, put together, reminding us of our company’s roots. For generations, the Meier’s have plumbed through difficult times. Creatively working towards the establishment that we are today. With hardy roots, Meier Plumbing is a steadily growing company that is now seeing the fruit of 85 years in the making.
